This book narrates the sacrifices of Sahibzadas Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh,

embracing martyrdom, the Sahibzadas bravely withstand temptations, threats,
and imprisonment. Ultimately, they are entombed alive for refusing to abandon
their beliefs. The narrative pays tribute to their unwavering courage and aims
to inspire readers to uphold fundamental rights and freedoms in challenging

2. The Wordsmiths: Eminent Sikh Scholars

In 2022, a groundbreaking project was initiated by the Guru Nanak Institute of Global Studies (GNI) to recognize 30 retired Sikh scholars whose significant contributions had been overlooked. After eight months of rigorous research, GNI’s dedicated team identified these unsung heroes, marking a crucial step in acknowledging their historical achievements. On April 18, 2023, a landmark event at the Tohra Institute of Advanced Studies in Sikhism celebrated these scholars’ lifetime achievements, highlighting their often-unrecognized accomplishments. Despite the emotional milestone, the ceremony also highlighted the fragility of life, emphasizing the urgency to appreciate community leaders and intellectuals while they are still with us. The Morcha Gangsar Jaito is a first-of-its-kind research compiled and edited by GNI’s research team (Dr. Ranjit Kaur Panwan and Advocate Sukhbir Singh Panwan). The book refers to a significant event in Sikh history, particularly during the Gurduara Reform Movement in the early 20th century. This movement aimed at freeing Sikh gurduaras from the control of corrupt Mahants (priests) who were supported by the British colonial authorities. The Morcha (protest) at Gangsar Jaito began in 1923 as a peaceful protest against the British government’s interference in the religious affairs of Sikhs. The agitation gained momentum and became pivotal in the struggle for Sikh religious autonomy and the more significant Indian independence movement. The peaceful protestors faced severe repression, but their resilience and dedication played a critical role in the eventual liberation of Sikh gurduaras.

This book, compiled and edited by GNI Sikh Research Scholar Dr. Tejinder Pal Singh, is a compilation of 12 top research papers presented at a two-day convention in Nabha, Punjab, on February 24 & 25, 2024, commemorating the centennial anniversary of the event. The convention focused on the Gangsar Jaito Morcha (agitation), and the papers in this collection delve into novel research areas, exploring aspects of the agitation that had not been previously examined. This in-depth research aims to uncover the root causes of the agitation.
