Course Overview:
This is an advanced course crafted to provide students with a thorough understanding of the security aspects and challenges inherent in cloud computing environments. The course delves into key cloud computing models, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS), highlighting the unique security concerns each model presents. Throughout the course, students will explore a range of security mechanisms and establish best practices aimed at addressing and mitigating these concerns effectively. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to practical, hands-on learning. Students will engage in exercises and analyze real-world case studies to acquire practical skills in securing cloud-based infrastructures and applications.
This course is designed to impart a robust foundation in cloud security principles. By its conclusion, students will not only possess a comprehensive understanding of these principles but will also be equipped with the capabilities necessary to design, implement, and maintain secure systems within the cloud computing paradigm.
Prerequisite:
- The student must have completed grade 12 or equivalent education.
- Basic understanding of Computer Networking Concepts & Cyber Security Principles.
- Students from non-English speaking countries must pass the English
Language Proficiency Test. - English Language Proficiency Test scores (IELTS – 6.0, TOEFL – 70, PTE – 45,
CAEL – 70, CAE – 176, Duolingo – 110, Password – 6.5, and PTE – 61) are
acceptable.
Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of cloud computing, including its service models and deployment models, and the security risks and concerns associated with cloud environments.
- Comprehend the security architecture of cloud computing and the different security layers used to secure cloud environments.
- Apply the shared responsibility model and trust model for cloud security and apply them to secure cloud environments.
- Analyze and evaluate different types of cloud computing threats and the associated risks and challenges.
- Identify and implement security controls, such as identity and access management, encryption, and network security, to secure cloud environments.
- Develop security policies and incident response plans for cloud environments and identify legal and regulatory compliance issues related to cloud security.
- Evaluate real-world examples of cloud security breaches and successful cloud security implementations.
- Demonstrating understanding of cloud security auditing and monitoring techniques to ensure the security of cloud environments.
