3. Tribute to Titans: Celebrating Sikh Scholars (ਸਨਮਾਨ ਸਮਾਰੋਹ) – The annals of Sikh history are replete with unsung heroes whose contributions have shaped the community yet often remain unrecognized. In 2022, an enlightening dialogue with Dr. Gurmail Singh (Punjabi University, Patiala) sparked a groundbreaking project unparalleled in Sikh history. This initiative aimed to assemble a list of 30 retired heroes whose significant contributions in their respective fields had never been acknowledged in an academic setting. It was a task of monumental proportions that required over eight months of diligent research. A team of dedicated researchers embarked on this journey, delving into the depths of Sikh scholarship to identify 30 individuals whose lifelong achievements are historical and invaluable lessons for future generations. This endeavour began a much-needed recognition of these extraordinary scholars within the Sikh community.
On April 18, 2023, a landmark event was held at the Tohra Institute of Advanced Studies in Sikhism [Sikhi], Patiala, Punjab, dedicated to celebrating the lifetime achievements of 30 retired Sikh scholars. This ceremony, while celebratory, also served as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the urgency to acknowledge and appreciate our community leaders and intellectuals while they are still with us. The event recognized the scholars’ academic and cultural contributions and highlighted the need for continued support and recognition of such invaluable work in the future.
