This upper-level course examines social justice issues in Canada through the ethical and historical
framework of the Sikh ethos. Drawing on Sikh teachings and diasporic experience, students
analyze how principles such as sarbat da bhala, seva, equality, and resistance to oppression inform
Sikh engagement with colonialism, Indigenous and racial justice, immigration, gender and sexual
diversity, religious accommodation, and systemic inequities, while developing advanced analytical
and applied research skills relevant to community leadership and policy work.
