Course Overview:
This course will introduce valuable foundations of Sikhi (Sikhism) and Sikh culture through a theological and sociological perspective. Students will become acquainted with the religious, moral, and social values of Sikhi, which have been the foundation of Sikh beliefs, practices, and doctrines for the last five centuries. This course will be of interest to students of history and comparative religion, as they will gain understanding of the origin and development of Sikhi and its contemporary relevance

- Sikh Religion: Origin and Development
- Sikh Institutions: Gurduara, Guruship, Sangat & Pangat
- Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh Scripture
- Nitnem: Daily Banis (Hymns)
- Traditions: Concept of Martyrdom (Guru Arjan Sahib and Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib)
- Concepts: Miri and Piri, Khalsa, Gurmata and Sarbat Khalsa
- Rituals: Birth, Amrit (initiation), Anand Karj (marriage), Death, and Commemoration
- Sikh History: Pre and Post Gurus period
- Conceptual Study: Oneness of God, Sikh religion, and environment; Human Values and Human Rights
- Sikh Identity and Diversity: Uniqueness of Sikhs, Role and Contribution, and Sikh Sects
- Sikhs and Society: Religious, social, economic, and political contributions
- Sikh Diaspora: Issues and Solutions
