Course Overview:

This course will identify and analyze key theories of religion from the social sciences, evaluate and understand the limits of such theories, and consider their applicability to a variety of religious traditions, texts, practices, and experiences.

Prerequisite:

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent

Learning Outcomes:

  • Development of a deep understanding of the context in which religious theories were and continue to develop.
  • A critical appreciation for theorizing religion.
  • Understanding and application of key concepts from the theory of religious discourse.
  • Understanding of the benefits and limits of these theories.
