A pivotal moment in his leadership was the establishment of the Khalsa in 1699. This significant event marked a new chapter in Sikh history. Guru Gobind Singh inducted five Sikhs from diverse social backgrounds into a new order of devout followers, the Khalsa, emphasizing the inherent equality among all. The Khalsa was distinguished by a unique identity with five articles of faith and a steadfast commitment to the core values of Sikhi, particularly the defence of faith and the upholding of justice and equality for all. By accepting initiation to be Khalsa, Guru Gobind Singh symbolized the unity and equality between the leader and his followers, erasing any hierarchical distinctions.
