Course Overview:

Projects are an integral part of everyday life and bring about all changes in business and personal life. This course provides the knowledge, skills, tools, techniques and step-by-step scientific approach to project management for experienced project managers and those with little or no experience in project management. Students learn to initiate, plan, execute, monitor & control, and timely closure of projects, with emphasis on managing projects effectively, including the management of scope, time, costs, quality and end goal satisfaction.

Prerequisite:

  • The student must have completed grade 12 or equivalent education.
  • Students from non-English speaking countries must pass the English Language Proficiency Test.
  • English Language Proficiency Test scores (IELTS – 6.0, TOEFL – 70, PTE – 45, CAEL – 70, CAE – 176, Duolingo – 110, Password – 6.5, and PTE – 61) are acceptable.
  • Math Placement Test score of 5 or better or MATH095 (C or better).

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understanding of Project Management (PM) principles and practices while maintaining high standards of practice, making ethical judgments and decisions in a respectful, and sustaining professional standing through a commitment to lifelong learning
  • Knowledge of the effective use of written, verbal, and non-verbal communication: use of industry terminology; writing a variety of Project Management documents and plans; applying processes required to manage the communications of a project (including appropriate and timely management of project information), and use of technology appropriate to the task.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills to manage the human resources of a project, including organizing, managing, and leading the project team, using effective strategies to influence others, managing conflict, and leading teams to successful project completion.
  • Value and commitment to the roles and influence of the project manager, sponsor, and customer
  • Ability to apply the generally recognized framework and good practices of project management within the frameworks of; the project management lexicon; organizational influences; operations; strategic planning; portfolios; programs; project life cycles; and project management cycles.
  • Knowledge of PM processes to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and control, close projects, and coordinate all project elements.
  • Ability to Manage projects effectively, including the management of scope, time, costs, and quality, ensuring satisfying the needs for which the project was undertaken.
  • Awareness of processes required to manage the procurement of a project, including acquiring goods and services from outside the organization.
  • Ability to manage project risk, including identifying, analyzing, and responding to risk.
  • Ability to analyze and manage stakeholder expectations and engagement to ensure a successful project outcome.
  • Ability to strategically apply project management practices in a variety of organizational and international settings.
