This course examines Sikh history from the death of Guru Gobind Singh in 1708 to the present,
focusing on continuity and change in Sikh political authority, institutions, and identity. Students
analyze major historical phases—including the Khalsa Panth, the Sikh Empire, colonial rule,
Partition, and the global diaspora—to understand how Sikhs have adapted to shifting political,
social, and cultural contexts while maintaining a distinct religious and collective identity.
