Course Overview:

Students will learn the classical and folk singing forms of Shabad Kirtan in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. This course prepares the students to do Shabad Keertan in the prescribed folk and classical singing styles as they manifest in the musicological structure of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

  • Define Gurbani structure in Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS).
  • Describe classical singing style of SGGS 
  • Describe folk singing style of SGGS
  • Apply classical and folk style in Shabad Keeertan
  • Demonstrate singing Shabads in classical styles (Chaupday, Partaal)
  • Demonstrate folk styles of Gurbani (e.g., Pauri, Chhant, Aluhanian, Ghorian, Lavan)
