Course Overview:

This course provides an overview of business functions and how they interact, and core themes such as entrepreneurship, customer satisfaction, ethics, global business, and managing change. This course helps the learner understand the role of business in Canada by focusing on the basics of management, business principles, organizational theory and structure, and emerging trends in fields including leadership, production, marketing, and finance. Overall, the course aims to provide students with a broad understanding of the business world and to develop their critical thinking skills.

Prerequisite:

  • The students must have completed grade 12 or equivalent education.
  • Students from non-English speaking countries must pass the English Language Proficiency Test.
  • English Language Proficiency – Acceptable test scores (IELTS – 6.0, TOEF – 70, PTE – 45, CAEL – 70, CAE – 176, Duolingo – 110, Password – 6.5, and PTE – 61) are acceptable.

  • Exhibit knowledge of the major industries and sectors that drive the Canadian economy, including manufacturing, resource extraction, and services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of various forms of business organizations that are prevalent in Canada, including sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations.
  • Comprehend the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern business operations in Canada, including tax laws, labour laws, and environmental regulations.
  • Investigate the role of ethics and social responsibility in Canadian business, including considerations of sustainability and corporate citizenship.
  • Identify the major business and financial centres of Canada, including Toronto and Montreal, and the role they play in the national economy.
  • Analyze business case studies and application of critical thinking skills to solve problems.
  • Assess the challenges and opportunities facing Canadian businesses in the 21st century, including technological change, globalization, and the impact of economic and political events.
