Skilled Workers in High-Demand Tech Occupations Can Get a Canadian Work Permit in as Little as Two Weeks

December 12, 2025

Guru Nanak Institute of Global Studies (GNI) is committed to preparing students for careers that are not only future-focused, but also aligned with Canada’s current labour-market needs. Our Cyber Security and Computer & IT Network Management diploma programs are specifically designed to equip graduates with the skills required for high-demand technology occupations in Canada.

Under Canada’s Global Talent Stream (GTS), a fast-track pathway within the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, employers can hire highly skilled workers in designated in-demand occupations with expedited processing. In approximately 80% of cases, eligible candidates can receive a work permit within just two weeks, once the employer secures a fast-tracked Labour Market Impact
Assessment (LMIA), typically processed in about 10 business days.

In addition, several GTS-eligible occupations fall under Canada’s STEM category for Express Entry, providing qualified workers with accelerated pathways to permanent residence. Even candidates whose occupations are not explicitly listed may still qualify under GTS Category A if they possess unique and specialized talent, meet prevailing wage requirements, and receive an offer from an innovative Canadian employer referred through the GTS.

Through industry-aligned curriculum, applied learning, and career-focused training, GNI programs position graduates to take advantage of these fast-track immigration and employment opportunities in Canada’s growing technology sector.

Global Talent Stream – Category B Eligible Occupations (Selected)

Graduates from GNI’s IT and Cyber-related programs may align with the following high-demand
occupations
eligible for expedited work permit processing:

  1. Computer and Information Systems Managers (NOC 20012)
  2. Cybersecurity Specialists (NOC 21220)
  3. Data Scientists (NOC 21211)
  4. Business Systems Specialists (NOC 21221)
  5. Information Systems Specialists (NOC 21222)
  6. Database Analysts and Data Administrators (NOC 21223)
  7. Software Engineers and Designers (NOC 21231)
  8. Computer Systems Developers and Programmers (NOC 21230)
  9. Software Developers and Programmers (NOC 21232)
  10. Web Developers and Programmers (NOC 21234)
  11. Computer Network and Web Technicians (NOC 22220)
  12. Information Systems Testing Technicians (NOC 22222)
  13. Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technologists and Technicians (NOC 22310)

Why This Matters for GNI Students

  • Faster work permits (as little as two weeks)
  • Strong alignment with Canadian labour shortages
  • Potential eligibility for Express Entry STEM draws

Exploring the Concept of Martyrdom in Sikhi

June 4, 2025

Moderated by Sukhmani Kaur, the Guru Nanak Institute of Global Studies (GNI) webinar on June 4 (Canada) and June 5 (Punjab), on The Concept of Martyrdom in Sikhi offered a deeply insightful and thought-provoking experience for all who attended. We began with a solemn moment of silence in remembrance of those who laid down their lives during the 1984 Saka Akal Takhat, an emotional tribute to the enduring spirit and sacrifice of the Sikh community.

We were honoured to host two distinguished scholars: Professor (Dr.) Gurmeet Singh Sidhu, of Punjabi University, Patiala, and Dr. Paramjit Kaur of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadar Khalsa College, Anandpur Sahib. Their powerful presentations brought to light critical dimensions of Sikh martyrdom often marginalized or misrepresented in Western academic discourse. Drawing from rich historical and theological sources, both speakers offered nuanced perspectives that deepened our collective understanding of martyrdom as a living, spiritual, and political legacy. in Sikhi.

To conclude the session, GNI President Gian Singh Sandhu provided an engaging reflection comparing the contrasting interpretations of Sikh martyrdom by Western scholars Dr. W.H. McLeod and Dr. Louis Fenech. He emphasized how their academic lenses, while influential, often fall short in capturing the indigenous lived experiences and spiritual depth embedded in Sikh narratives of Shahadat (martyrdom for truth) and resistance with dignity.

This webinar reinforced GNI’s commitment to promoting authentic, Panthic-centred scholarship and encouraged renewed dialogue rooted in community voices and grounded academic inquiry. Martyrdom in Sikhi, as the session highlighted, is not merely a historical event; it is a continuing legacy of faith, resistance, justice and identity.
